Surjit Mansingh is professor at the Centre for International Politics, Organization and Disarmament in the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Prior to this position, Professor Mansingh was a senior fellow at the Centre for Contemporary Studies, and the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. Professor Mansingh's teaching and research have focused on theoretical and practical problems in international relations and on foreign policy in comparative perspective. Among her many publications are Historical Dictionary of India, (1996); and India's Search for Power: Indira Gandhi's Foreign Policy, (1984). She began her career as a diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service. Professor Mansingh is active in various forums for promoting wider participation in international affairs and international understanding. After earning a Ph.D. in international studies from the American University in Washington, DC, she spent many years teaching in the United States, India and Italy.
