Barbara Stilwell

Barbara Stilwell is a scientist in human resources development for health services provision in the Department of Evidence for Information and Policy of the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, Switzerland. In her work, she develops new methods to promote better dissemination and use of the normative information produced by WHO. Prior to her current assignment, she worked for the WHO in the Expanded Programme on Immunization, where she worked on developing a training strategy for immunization. From 1991 to 1995, Dr. Stilwell served as principal lecturer at the Institute of Advanced Nursing Education, Royal College of Nursing, London, United Kingdom. During her tenure, she initiated the first nurse practitioner graduate program. Prior to this, she worked as a researcher at the Department of Nursing Studies, Kings College, London. Her work focused on the role of the nurse practitioner in general practice. Dr. Stilwell holds a Ph.D. from Kings College, London, and a master's degree in global development management from the Open University, United Kingdom.
