Isa Kabenge has been working with the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) at Makerere University since October 1998. In 2002, he co-founded an Environmental Engineering Consulting Firm called Air Water Earth (AWE) Ltd. in Uganda with operations in the East African Region. It was at this time that he was launched into the field of conservation for biodiversity with a strong focus on transboundary considerations. Dr. Kabenge has been active in studies for development projects that require effective approaches for transboundary conservation for biodiversity and peace. He has been involved in oil and gas development studies in the Murchison Falls National Park and Lake Albert, a rift valley lake shared by Uganda and DRC. Additionally, he has been involved in development of highways and transmission lines through nature reserves, as well as HPP development on the River Nile, which drains into the Mediterranean through South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt. Dr. Kabenge is interested in conservation approaches that integrate GIS in developing a range of solutions for transboundary challenges related to managing and conserving our biodiversity and peace. He completed his Ph.D. training in May 2011 in agricultural and biological systems engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA.
