Sonia Barnes is program associate for philanthropy and volunteerism at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. Specifically, she reviews incoming proposals, monitors funded projects, conducts site visits, and serves as the contact person for inquiries. Before joining the Foundation, Ms. Barnes worked for the United Negro College Fund Inc. (UNCF), where she worked as the assistant national director of foundations. She planned, developed, and administered foundation-giving programs. Ms. Barnes also served as a campaign manager during UNCF's capital campaign-CAMPAIGN 2000. Prior to joining UNCF, she worked as a program officer for the Spunk Fund, Inc., in New York, and as a business development specialist for the Opportunity Resource Institute, New York. She earned a bachelor's degree in business economics and French from the State University of New York at Oneonta, and a master's degree in urban policy analysis and management from the New School for Social Research in New York City. She served as a rapporteur for Salzburg Seminar Session 351, Non-Governmental Organizations: Leadership and Civil Society.
