Maina Charles Kimani is chief of party for the University Research Company (URC-Kenya) ASSIST Project where he supervises 21 staff members. In this capacity, he offers overall strategic direction and technical oversight for URC activities Kenya and supporting the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Security and East African Community and USG partners in capacity building for quality improvement, M&E strategy development, county health OVC and Child Protection, HIV, Malaria and RMCH/FP programming. Maina is also an monitoring and evaluation (M&E) specialist with 12 years of experience in managing M&E departments, designing project M&E plans, frameworks and performance monitoring plans. He is proficient in database development, data analysis, M&E training, and the development of M&E tools. He previously served as the monitoring and evaluation advisor for the ASSIST Project. As a senior strategic information advisor for University of Maryland IHV Kenya, he was responsible for management of the strategic information department which supported 8 grants. He developed an M&E Plan, project specific M&E frameworks, performance monitoring plans and plans for the organization and followed up their implementation. He also trained program staff on M&E principles, and was involved in a number of M&E technical working groups for the Ministry of Health. At PSI, Maina served as the monitoring and evaluation manager and developed an organization-wide M&E framework and plan for the organization, led program staff to ensure adequate MIS systems and quality control to ensure that data was "auditable" throughout the system, and developed and implemented a comprehensive M&E training curriculum. He holds a B.Sc. in applied statistics from Maseno University and a M.Sc. in biometry from the University of Nairobi.
