Seiichiro Takagi is a professor at the School of International Politics, Economics and Business at the Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo, Japan. He specializes in Chinese foreign relations and security issues in the Asia-Pacific region. Previously, he was the director of the Area Studies Research Department at the National Institute for Defense Studies in Tokyo. Dr. Takagi also served on the Faculty of Political Science of Saitama University for over 20 years, and has been a guest scholar at The Brookings Institution and Beijing University. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Association for Political and Economics Studies on Asia, Japan, and is a member of several other organizations, including the Japanese Committee, Council for Security Cooperation in Asia-Pacific; the Japan Association for International Relations; the Japan Political Science Association; and the International Studies Association in the United States. Dr. Takagi’s recent publications include "The Impact of September 11 on China’s Key Foreign Relationships," Japan Reviews of International Affairs, 2002. He earned a B.A. in international relations from the University of Tokyo, Japan, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University, California. Dr. Takagi served on the Faculty of Salzburg Seminar Session 373, China and the Global Community, 1999.
