S. Chander

Chairperson, Energy Community of Practice, Asian Development Bank, Manila

Seethapathy Chander is the deputy director general of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Private Sector Operations Department which makes investments in, and provides financial support for, infrastructure and financial sector projects promoted by the private sector or commercially-oriented state owned enterprises. Mr. Chander is also concurrently the chair of ADB's Energy Community of Practice which provides advice and guidance to ADB's operating departments on policy matters and initiatives in the energy sector. Before coming to the ADB, he worked for fifteen years with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), and was part of the team that designed and constructed NTPC's first 400 kV transmission systems and the engineering manager of NTPC's and India's first High Voltage Direct Current transmission systems. In his last position there as assistant to the Chairman and Managing Director, he was responsible for policy coordination as well as acquisitions. Mr. Chander is a graduate in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, where he majored in power systems engineering.
