Ronald Olson

Senior Partner, Munger, Tolles & Olson, Los Angeles

Ronald Olson is a senior partner of Munger, Tolles & Olson in Los Angeles, California, where he has practiced law since 1968. In 1967, Mr. Olson was an attorney for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. In 1968, he clerked for Chief Judge David L. Bazelon, United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Mr. Olson is a former chairman of the Board of Trustees of Claremont University Center and Graduate School, and is currently chair of the RAND Corporation Institute for Civil Justice. Mr. Olson is the former chair of the Litigation Section of the ABA, chair of the ABA Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution, and chair of the ABA Federal Judiciary Committee. He received a B.S. from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa; a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor; and a diploma in law from the University of Oxford. Mr. Olson served on the Faculty of Salzburg Seminar Session 246, Conflict Resolution, 1985; Session 263, American Law and Legal Institutions, 1987; Session 287, The Global Village and the Media Revolution, 1991; and was the Co-Chair for Session 329, The Impact of the Media on Politics, Public Policy, and World Events, 1995. He is a former member of the Salzburg Seminar Board of Directors and is on the Salzburg Seminar’s Counsel of Senior Fellows.
