Augustine Gallego

Augie Gallego (Resource Specialist) is the chancellor emeritus of the San Diego Community College District, a position he held from 1990 until 2004. Earlier in his career, Mr. Gallego served as associate dean of student affairs and associate director of admissions at the University of California-Davis. He also served as associate dean of student services and provost at the San Diego Community College District Educational Cultural Complex, and dean of San Diego Community College District Cesar Chavez and West City Continuing Education Centers, as well as director of San Diego Community College District Instructional and Student Services. He was the second community college chief executive to serve as chair of the board of the American Council on Education in its eighty-five year history. In 1998, Mr. Gallego served as chair of the American Association of Community Colleges. Mr. Gallego holds a B.A. in secondary education from the University of Arizona, and an M.A. in educational psychology from the University of California at Davis. Mr. Gallego has attended several of the Salzburg Global Seminar's programs including the first Russian Higher Education Project Symposium in 2003 and several ISP sessions.
