Caitlin Runyon

University of Rhode Island, USA

My name is Caitlin Runyon. I am a junior at the University of Rhode Island pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with minors in Leadership Studies and International Relations. After spending a semester studying diplomacy in Dubrovnik, Croatia, I realized my passion for travel, the outdoors, and how both of these impact cross-cultural understanding. These interests have led me to my involvement in group development, peer mentoring, and outdoor leadership through the Center for Student Leadership Development at URI.

As a facilitator for the North Woods Challenge Course and Student Organization Leadership Consultants, I plan and execute indoor and outdoor retreats for groups seeking development and bonding. A group of facilitators, including myself, have begun to coordinate a campus wide retreat for all student groups to find a common purpose in building a community. Furthermore, I was recently asked to be part of the planning committee for the state wide Diversifying Individuals Via Education In Rhode Island Conference. The Salzburg Academy is a great opportunity to combine my passions and expand on my skills for the sake of social change, and I am thrilled to be a part of it!
