Ashley Deeks

Ashley Deeks joined the Virginia faculty in 2012 after two years as an academic fellow at Columbia Law School. She served in the Legal Adviser's Office at the State Department, most recently as the Assistant Legal Adviser for Political-Military Affairs. In 2007-2008 she held an International Affairs Fellowship from the Council on Foreign Relations and in 2005, she served as the embassy legal adviser at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, during Iraq's constitutional negotiations. Her primary research and teaching interests are in the areas of international law, national security, intelligence, and the laws of war.
