Ricardo MELÉNDEZ-ORTIZ is the co-founding chief executive of the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development in Geneva. Since 1997, Mr. Meléndez-Ortiz has been the publisher of BRIDGES and its sister publications. He is the convener of the e15initiative, an ambitious process involving over 240 experts in 2011 to 2015, looking into the possible immediate futures of the Multilateral Trade System. He also serves on the board of the Meridian Institute and Intellectual Property Watch. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Councils on Governance of Sustainability and of Global Trade and FDI; and of the WEF’s task forces on Millennium Development Goals and on Trade and Climate Change. He currently leads an international campaign for a Sustainable Energy Trade Agreement (SETA). Previously he has represented Colombia as a negotiator in various multilateral processes. Mr. Meléndez-Ortiz has edited and authored a significant number of publications on international trade. Heis a graduate of Harvard University. Mr. Meléndez-Ortiz served on the faculty of Session 464, Confronting Protectionism: How Business and Governments Can Build Support for Open Markets, in 2009, and served on the faculty of Session 491, The Future of the Multilateral Trading System and the World Trade Organization, in 2012.
