René Amalberti is professor of physiology and ergonomics at the Military Hospital of Val-de-Grâce, Paris. He is also head of the Department of Cognitive Science at IMASSA, the airforce aerospace medical research laboratory. Dr. Amalberti’s research interests focus on the design of intelligent support systems, human error management and prevention, and risk control at the level of individuals, groups, and systems. Since 1999, he has been a member of the French National Program for Cognitive Science. From 1992 to 2000, Dr. Amalberti served as chair of the European Joint Aviation Authorities Human Factors Steering Group. This group was responsible for the establishment of human factors rules regarding the design, training, safety policies, safety audit, and aerospace medicine for civil aviation in Europe. Dr. Amalberti has published widely on risk management and control. Dr. Amalberti holds an M.D. from Marseille University, and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from the University of Paris 8.
