Randy Beardsworth is the assistant secretary for strategic plans with the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) within the newly formed Office of Strategic Plans. The Office primarily focuses on counterterrorism planning and implementation planning. Mr. Beardsworth also supervises the Program Management Office for the Secretary's initiative to gain control of US borders and to improve immigration enforcement inside the United States. Mr. Beardsworth first entered the DHS in December of 2002 as a key member of the transition team charged with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. He also served as director for Defense Policy on the National Security Council staff and as director for Strategic Planning, Budget and Workforce Development for the Immigration and Naturalization Service's Detention and Removal program. Mr. Beardsworth completed fellowships with the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC, and at the National Security Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Prior to entering civil service, Mr. Beardsworth served in the Coast Guard where he was chief of law enforcement for the Seventh Coast Guard District in Miami, Florida. Mr. Beardsworth holds a B.Sc. from the United States Coast Guard Academy and an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado.
