Peggy ANTROBUS (Co-Chair) is a founding member and the former general
coordinator of Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN).
Since the 1960s, when she set up the Community Development Department for
the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Antrobus has worked in
the development field at the local, national, regional, and international levels. She
has represented her country, region, and the international women's movement at
various conferences, including the four UN World Conferences on Women.
Between 1978 and 1995, she served as tutor and coordinator of the Women and
Development Unit at the School of Continuing Studies, University of the West
Indies, Barbados. She is a former member of the Editorial Advisory Committee
for the UN Development Fund for Women, and currently serves as a consultant
on Gender and the Millennium Development Goals. Her book, The Global
Women's Movement: Origins, Issues and Strategies for a New Century [London:
Zed Books] will be published in October 2004. Dr. Antrobus holds a B.A. in
economics from Bristol University, United Kingdom, and a doctorate in
education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. Dr. Antrobus
served on the Faculty of Salzburg Seminar Session 353, Sustainable Rural
Community Development, 1998.
