Paul Volcker served two terms as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 1979 to 1987. He spent more than four years as president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and was United States undersecretary for monetary affairs. In 1987, after retiring from the Board of Governors, Mr. Volcker was appointed Frederick H. Schultz professor at Princeton University and served as chairman of the firm of James D. Wolfensohn Inc. From 2000 to 2005, Mr. Volcker served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Accounting Standards Committee, overseeing a renewed effort to develop consistent, high-quality accounting standards, acceptable in all countries and of the Independent Inquiry Committee for the United Nations Oil-for-Food Program. He earned his B.A. at Princeton University and an M.A. in political economy and government at the Harvard University Graduate School of Public Administration. He attended the London School of Economics as a postgraduate student from 1951 to 1952. He has a long-time affiliation with Salzburg Global Seminar, most recently as a chair of Session 523: Restoring the Public's Trust: Delivering on Public Policy Goals in 2013.
