Aravind Srinivasan

Director of Projects, Aravind Eye Care System, Madurai

Aravind Srinivasan is the director of projects at Aravind Eye Care System, which serves as a strategic direction to address the basic issues of providing eye care in the underserved regions in India. In partnership with MP Birla Group, Uttar Pradesh-Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust, Gujarat- Sun Pharma Group and Rajasthan-Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, the organization is currently running eye hospitals in places like Kolkatta, Amehi and Lucknow, and Amreli. Dr. Srinivasan graduated in medicine from the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Coimbatore, South India in 1992 and completed his residency in ophthalmology, leading to master's degree in ophthalmology, from Aravind Eye Institute and Postgraduate Institute of Ophthalmology in Madurai, South India. Working in the medical field, he gained a passion for management. As a result he earned an M.B.A. with specialization in strategy from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and took over as the administrator of Aravind Eye Care System. He was instrumental in bringing changes to various facets of the organization. Apart from administering the institution in all respects, his field of interests includes performing phaco surgeries and taking care of the patients. He is involved in teaching eye health management courses leading to capacity building. He has presented the "Aravind Model" of high volume, high quality, cost effective eye care at numerous international conferences. He is also a resource person for the Indian Institute of Management and Indian School of Business and mentor for the M.B.A. students of Wharton School of Business and University of Michigan. Currently he is especially interested in the area of "Aravind Managed Eye Care Services," through which the organization is planning to reach a million surgeries.
