Minna Järvenpää

Independent Analyst and former Head of Analysis and Planning, United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Kabul

Minna Järvenpää is an independent analyst based in Afghanistan, where she formerly served as Head of Analysis and Planning in the UNAMA mission in Kabul. Before this, she worked on Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia for the British Government's Stabilisation Unit, and as Senior Advisor to former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari, supporting a range of crisis management initiatives throughout Europe. Minna's involvement in the Balkan region spanned nine years during which she spent two years working for UNMIK in Kosovo as Strategy Advisor to Special Representative of the Secretary General and then municipal administrator in Mitrovica until April 2004. She previously worked as ESI analyst covering Serbia and Montenegro and Macedonia, and from 1996-1998 as political and refugee affairs advisor to the High Representative in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Minna has a background in international relations from Harvard and the London School of Economics.
