Maureen Bisognano

Maureen Bisognano is executive vice president and chief operating officer at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in Boston, Massachusetts. IHI is a premier integrative force for change in the health care industry, providing strategic vision, proven methodologies, and expert knowledge to health care leaders committed to improving the quality of patient care. Ms. Bisognano also serves as treasurer of the American Society for Quality, of which she has been an active member since 1988. Prior to joining IHI she was senior vice president of The Juran Institute, where she supported the implementation of total quality management concepts in health care settings. Early in her career, while serving as chief executive officer of Massachusetts Respiratory Hospital in Braintree, Ms. Bisognano implemented a comprehensive hospital-based quality improvement program. She has authored numerous articles on medical leadership and has helped many health care leaders and organizations improve performance. Ms. Bisognano received a B.Sc. from the University of the State of New York, and an M.S. in nursing administration from Boston University, Massachusetts.
