Masafumi Nagao

Professor, Center for the Study of International Cooperation in Education (CICE), Hiroshima University, Japan

Masafumi NAGAO is research professor at the Center for the Study of International Cooperation in Education in Hiroshima University, Japan. The Center was established in April 1997 by the Ministry of Education of the Japanese Government to promote effective and efficient international educational cooperation. Mr. Nagao's primary work is to conduct research relating to evaluation of aid programs and projects in the field of education. He also works with local public schools to introduce evaluation as a tool of school management. Prior to joining the Center, Mr. Nagao was with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, one of the largest grantmaking foundations in Japan, as a chief program officer in charge of programs for local community's internationalization initiatives and for international networking in education and research. Along with his foundation partners, he runs an international network of  foundations and organizations in eleven Asian countries and territories for the promotion of transnational civil society. Previously, Mr. Nagao worked as the economics affairs officer in the Technology Division of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva, Switzerland.  Mr. Nagao received an M.A. in economic policy from Hitosubashi University in Tokyo. He has served on the faculty of several Salzburg Seminar sessions, including, most recently, as Chair of East Asia-The United States: A Search for Common Values, in 2000.
