Mariana Aylwin

Executive Director, Corporación Educacional Aprender, former Minister of Education, Santiago, Chile

Mariana Aylwin is executive director of the Corporación Educacional Aprender (Educational Opportunity Foundation), the mission of which is to help improve the quality of education received by the most helpless children in Chile. Together with Harvard University School of Education she is leading "Un buen comienzo" ("A good start"), a program which focuses on preschool education. The Ministry of Education has agreed to systematize and replicate key aspects of the project, and then apply them in designing public policies to improve the quality of early childhood education throughout the country.

Between 2000 and 2003 she served as the Minister of Education in Chile.

She is part of the evaluation team of the Program for Education Reform in Latin America (PREAL), and serves on the board of School Quality Certification of the Chile Foundation. She is a member of the board for a digital newspaper called "El Dinamo". She received degrees in education and history from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
