Ann Finlayson

Ann Finlayson is the director of Sustainability and Environmental Education (SEEd), a registered charity that promotes, and supports education for sustainable development in the United Kingdom. She was formerly the commissioner for Education and Capability Building on the UK Government's Sustainable Development Commission, which advises, monitors and supports the UK Government's sustainable development efforts. She has worked in the environmental field for nearly thirty years, initially in forestry and micro-climate research in upland Britain. After a stint as a countryside ranger in Scotland, she began traveling the world teaching, facilitating, and consulting in places such as Papua New Guinea, Australia, and Canada. Upon returning to the UK, Ms. Finlayson began work for WWF-UK as a professional development officer bringing together her experience of evaluation and learning methodologies for sustainable development, facilitation, and adult learning. Her years of experience in the classroom and in informal learning were crucial to this task. In 2002, she became head of the WWF-UK Social Change Department, taking responsibility for strategy development in 'Learning for Sustainability' in the education sector, local government, community, and business sectors in the UK and overseas. She currently holds a number of advisory, fellow, and tutor positions at UK universities. She has served on the faculty of several ISP sessions.
