Linda Tarr-Whelan, is a distinguished senior fellow at Demos, a progressive thinktank in New York and author of Women Lead the Way: Your Guide to Stepping Up to Leadership and Changing the World (Berrett, Koehler 2009). A former US Ambassador to the UN Commission on the Status of Women in the Clinton Administration and deputy assistant for women's concerns in the Carter White House, Ms. Tarr-Whelan has focused much of her career on the advancement and empowerment of women. As the head of the Center for Policy Alternatives she led two summits on women and the economy - one at the White House and one at 10 Downing Street. Her earlier career included executive positions in a public employee union, the National Education Association and New York State government. She and her husband Keith Tarr-Whelan were partners in an international management consultancy. She holds a B.S. from Johns Hopkins University, an M.S. from the University of Maryland and honorary Ph.D.'s from Chatham University in Pittsburgh and Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.
