Marcelo Paixão

Marcelo Paixão is an economist at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Brazil. As a professor at UFRJ, he gives lectures in political economy, labor economic, race relations and inequality and solidarity economy. Between 2012 and 2013 he was a visiting scholar at the Center for Migration and Development at Princeton University. Dr. Paixão published several articles and books, mainly about the problem of the racism and race relations in Brazil. Among his recent publications are "A lenda da modernidade encantada: critic" ("The Enchanted Modernity Legend") and "500 anos de solidão: estudos sobre as relações raciais no Brasil" ("500 Years of Solitude: Studies about Race Relations in Brazil"). Dr. Paixão holds a Ph.D. in sociology from IUPERJ in Brazil.
