Andrew Shapiro

Andrew SHAPIRO is a senior advisor to the Markle Foundation, as well as a writer,

lawyer, consultant, and entrepreneur whose work concentrates on the Internet and

its impact on society. Mr. Shapiro is the author of The Control Revolution: How

the Internet is Putting Individuals in Charge and Changing the World We Know

(1999). He is the founder and chairman of, an Internet company

that uses the power of e-commerce to promote environmentally sound purchasing

by large institutions. He has recently served as director of the Aspen Institute Internet

Policy Project, first amendment fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice at New

York University Law School, and a lecturer at Columbia Law School, where he

taught a seminar on new media and the law. Mr. Shapiro has also been a fellow at

Harvard Law School’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society and at The Century

Foundation, a New York City think-tank. He is a co-founder of the Technorealism

Project, a new attempt to raise public awareness about the impact of technology on

society. Mr. Shapiro received his J.D. from Yale Law School.
