Knut Kjaer

former CEO, Norges Bank Investment Management, Oslo

Knut N. Kjaer served as the chief executive officer of Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) from its inception in 1997 to 2007. NBIM manages the Government Pension Fund and Norway's foreign reserves. From 1994 to 1997, he was the executive vice president of Storebrand, Norway's largest insurance company. Mr. Kjaer is a founding member of the Economic Analysis Centre ECON, where he was a senior partner and researcher from 1986 to 1994. Prior to this, he was a researcher in the Department of Economics at the University of Oslo and with Statistics Norway. He was also a member of the Board and Deputy Chairman of the Oslo Stock Exchange and Chairman of the Board of CICERO (Centre for International Climate and Energy Research Oslo). Mr. Kjaer has a masters degree in economics and a degree in political science from University of Oslo. He has also completed the advanced management program at Harvard Business School.
