Kim NASMYTH is director of the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP)
in Vienna. Dr. Nasmyth’s main area of research is chromosome segregation during
mitosis and meiosis. He is also leader of a joint venture of the Austrian Academy of
Sciences and the IMP to establish a new institute of molecular and cellular biology
and bioinformatics. Dr. Nasmyth was a senior scientist at the IMP, and a staff
member at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Division
of Cell Biology, Cambridge, UK. He has received numerous awards including the
Louis Jeantet Prize for Medicine, and the 1999 Wittgenstein Prize by the Austrian
Government. Dr. Nasmyth is a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and
a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr.
Nasmyth received a Ph.D. from the Department of Zoology, University of Edinburgh,
UK.
