Kevin Jon Heller

Kevin Jon Heller is a senior lecturer at Melbourne Law School. He previously held positions at the University of Auckland School of Law and the University of Georgia School of Law. In addition to his scholarly work, Mr. Heller has participated in the International Criminal Court's negotiations over the crime of aggression, served as Human Rights Watch's external legal adviser on the trial of Saddam Hussein, and consulted with defense teams at both the ICTY and the ICTR. He is currently serving as one of Radovan Karadzic's formally-appointed legal associates. His work on international criminal law and comparative criminal law has appeared in the Michigan Law Review, the American Journal of International Law, the European Journal of International Law, the Journal of International Criminal Justice, Criminal Law Forum, and others. He is the co-editor of The Handbook of Comparative Criminal Law, the first book dedicated to examining substantive criminal law from a comparative perspective, which will be published in October 2010. His book The Nuremberg Military Tribunals and the Origins of International Criminal Law will be published by Oxford University Press in March 2011. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in social theory from the New School for Social Research, an M.A. in literature from Duke University, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School. He is expecting his Ph.D. in law from Leiden University in early 2011.
