Rhys Daunic

Founder & Director, The Media Spot, USA

Rhys Daunic is founder and director of The Media Spot, USA. He has facilitated student media productions and developed media literacy curricula with educators throughout the USA and abroad, primarily within New York City public schools. Throughout his career, Rhys has produced and published process-focused films and other professional development resources for media literacy education on themediaspot.org. His reflections on this work have been published in the Journal of Media Literacy Education, and Media Literacy Education in Action: Theoretical and Pedagogical Perspectives. Rhys is currently head of creative development for the Elk Coast Institute for Mindful Sustainable Innovation, USA, and is a faculty member at the Summer Institute in Digital Literacy at the Harrington School of Communications at the University of Rhode Island. Previously, he has taught graduate-level media literacy courses at Columbia University Teachers College, was member of the board of directors at the National Association for Media Literacy Education, and served as media literacy director of The Generation Connection, a non-profit intergenerational summer camp focusing on media literacy and the environment. Rhys holds a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, and an M.A. in media studies from The New School in New York City.
