Javier Santiso

Javier Santiso is director and chief development economist of the OECD Development Centre in Paris. He previously served as chief economist for Latin America and emerging markets at the Economic Research Department of Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria in Madrid. Prior to this, Dr. Santiso served as senior expert associate on Latin American emerging markets with Crédit Agricole Indosuez (now Calyon) and as well as research fellow at the Centre d'études et de recherches internationales of the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). He started his career at the Latin American Centre at University of Oxford. Dr. Santiso is the author of over 30 articles on developing and emerging economies and most recently published Latin America's Political Economy of the Possible: Beyond Good Revolutionaries and Free Marketeers. Dr. Santiso holds a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, France, and St. Antony's College, University of Oxford.
