Maggie

University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA

Born and raised in a rural town in southern Maryland, I never had a clue of what I wanted out of life. Then, when I was 12, my father's job moved our family to Canberra, Australia, and my life was turned upside down. I had never experienced so many different cultures at once, and my outlook on the world and my own life drastically changed.

When we returned to the U.S. two years later, I knew I wanted to enter a profession that allowed me to interact with different cultures and help eliminate the ignorance and closed-mindedness that I noticed was common in America. In my junior year of high school, I took a broadcasting class that generated a weekly news show, and I fell in love with journalism. My senior year I served as the co-executive producer, and decided to pursue a degree in broadcast journalism in college, specializing in foreign news.

In the future, I hope to work in production at a local news station, and eventually become an executive producer. My main interests include foreign news and stories regarding social issues; however, I also have an interest in long-form documentaries and environmental issues. Two of my favorite news outlets include Al Jazeera and National Geographic.
