Jan Kohout


Jan Kohout is ambassador and permanent representative of the Czech Republic to the European Union. He began his career as a researcher at the Institute of International Relations in Prague. From 1993 to 1995 Ambassador Kohout was director of the United Nations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and, from 1995 to 2000, served as deputy head of the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, as well as several other organizations seated in Vienna. After returning to Prague he held several positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including European correspondent, deputy director of the European Union and Western Europe Department, political director, and from 2001 to 2002 deputy minister. Ambassador Kohout graduated from the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague.
