Isabel Hilton is a London based writer and broadcaster who has reported extensively from Latin America, Europe, South and East Asia and Africa. In addition to her writing career, she has made several radio and television documentaries and is currently a columnist for the Guardian and presenter of Radio 3's flagship cultural program Night Waves, editor of www.openDemocracy.net, the global current affairs website and founder and editor of www.chinadialogue.net, a pioneering bilingual website devoted to climate change and environment. For www.chinadialogue, she initiated and developed the project, supervised the site build, co-ordinating the challenges of design and functionality for a fully bilingual website, recruited staff in Beijing and London and set up a volunteer network for forum translation. The site is now well established both in China and internationally. Dr. Hilton lectures extensively and is frequently called upon to talk on international affairs. She was recently been awarded an honorary doctorate (D. Litt) by Bradford University, in recognition of her contribution to international understanding. She has attended the Salzburg Global Seminar Fellow event on Mobilizing Democracy to Tackle Climate Change, in 2010.
