Alvaro Ortiz is the Chief Economist for Cross Emerging Markets at BBVA Research Department. He previously worked as Chief Economist for Europe, Middle East and Asia at Cemex, Deputy Director of Economics Research at Repsol YPF and Head of Latin American Economies at Banco Santander Research Department.
His main research interests lie on emerging markets economics with special interests in business cycle and country risk analysis. He also published works on commodity price fluctuations.
Alvaro holds a PhD in Economics by the Universidad Autonoma of Madrid and holds an Advanced Diploma in International Economics and Policy Research by the Kiel Institute of World Economics.
