Hedy Rose

Hedy Rose served on the faculties of Smith, UMass, Hampshire College, and Wesleyan University, where she directed the joint graduate Educational Studies and Teacher Certification programs. Her research has included studies of young children's reactions to symbols of patriotism and chauvinism, utopian education, and first amendment rights of teachers. More recently she has been directing her research towards the responses of individuals and institutions prior to and during enemy occupation of The Netherlands. In the fall of 2008, she was a visiting fellow at the Nederlands Instituut voor Oorlogsdocumentatie (War Document Archives) in Amsterdam. For the past seven years she has been visiting scholar at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, where she is conducting research for a book on Amsterdam before and during World War II. She has lectured in many parts of the US and in Austria, Germany, Ireland, Portugal and The Netherlands. She holds degrees from Cornell, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts.
