Guillermo O'Donnell

Helen Kellogg Professor of Government and International Studies, University of Notre Dame, Indiana

Guillermo O’Donnell is the Helen Kellogg Professor of Government and International Studies at the University of Notre Dame, USA. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as well as a senior fellow of the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies of Notre Dame, of which he was academic director from 1982 until 1997. Due to Argentina’s oppressive military regime, in 1978 he moved temporarily to Brazil and then took residence in the United States. He has published extensively on such topics as authoritarian regimes, transitions from authoritarian rule, processes of democratization, democratic theory, and rule of law. Dr. O’Donnell holds an LL.B. from Argentina and a Ph.D. in political science from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.
