Su Guaning is the president of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Since taking office, he has raised the university's profile as a research-intensive institution of higher learning, internationally acclaimed for its strengths in science and engineering. Before his appointment to NTU, he served as chief executive officer for the Defense Science and Technology Agency, which he had established after working as deputy secretary for the Ministry of Defense in Singapore. Former positions include director of the Defense Science Organization (DSO) and chief executive officer of DSO National Laboratories. Dr. Su is a registered professional engineer, working extensively on the research and development of radar electronic warfare and communications systems, and has served on many boards, amongst others, as chairman of the Chinese Heritage Centre Board of Governors and as board member of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research. Dr. Su has received many awards, including the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, and holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, from the University of Alberta, California Institute of Technology, and Stanford University, respectively.
