Gloria R. Smith is vice president for programs at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. She is responsible for program development and administration as well as program/project evaluation and dissemination. Dr. Smith also provides leadership for the Foundation's health programs. Before joining the Foundation, Dr. Smith was dean of the College of Nursing at Wayne State University, Michigan. Previously, she served as director of the Michigan Department of Public Health. She has been a member of the faculties of Tuskegee University, Alabama, and Albany State College, Georgia, and dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Smith earned a B.A. in nursing at Wayne State University; an M.A. in anthropology from the University of Oklahoma; and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the Union for Experimenting Colleges and Universities, in Ohio. Dr. Smith served as a faculty member for Salzburg Seminar Session 334 on Health Care Partnerships: Meeting the Needs of Underserved Communities, 1996, and for Session 346 on Race and Ethnicity: Models for Diversity, 1997.
