Gang Fan

Director, National Economic Research Institute, China Reform Foundation, Beijing; Professor of Economics, Peking University and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (invited)

FAN Gang is professor of economics at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and director of the National Institute of Economic Research at the China Reform Foundation in Beijing. From 1985 to 1987, he was a visiting fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and at Harvard University. His publications include numerous articles and books on macroeconomics and the economics of transition. He is advisor to various departments of Chinese central government and provincial governments; guest professor at several universities and graduate schools; and consultant to The World Bank, the United Nations Development Program, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Population, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Professor Fan received his Ph.D. in economics from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He served as a faculty member at several Salzburg Global Seminar sessions, most recently at Session 373, China and the Global Community, 1999.
