Alexandros Kapelis has appeared in recital and as soloist in England, France, Italy, Spain,
Switzerland, Malta, Greece, Cyprus and the Middle East, as well as the United States, Mexico, and
South America. He has been described by the press as "a virtuoso of the keyboard without any
concession to the public nor to decadent sentimentality" (Diari de Balears, Spain), "an artist of
unexpected artistic maturity" (Estia, Greece), and "possessing an undeniable temperamental vein"
(El Porvenir, Mexico). Recognized early in his career by the International Press Service (IPS) as
"one of the most promising young classical musicians of any nationality working in New York today,"
he has gone on to perform in prominent venues that include Lincoln Center and the United Nations
in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, the Chicago
Cultural Center, Cadogan Hall and Stationer's Hall in London, the Salle Cortot and UNESCO in
Paris, the Musei Capitolini in Rome, and the Athens Megaron.
As soloist, Mr. Kapelis has appeared with leading orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra in London, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Italica, as well as the foremost
orchestras in his native Greece. In addition, he has performed as soloist and in chamber music with
ensembles of musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New
York Philharmonic. His rapport with a chamber group of select musicians from the New York
Philharmonic lasted eight years, taking him from New York's Lincoln Center to several tours in
Europe. He has participated in various international festivals and has collaborated with
distinguished musicians such as violinist Michael Guttmann, oboist Liang Wang, clarinetist Stanley
Drucker, cellists David Cohen and Hai-Ye Ni, the Avalon Quartet, and others. Active also as a
recitalist, his solo repertoire encompasses all periods and often combines the standard repertoire
with more obscure works. Most recently, he has premiered an unprecedented program surveying
Greek myth as a source of inspiration in the solo piano repertoire; under the auspices of the Greek
government, Kapelis is presenting this program on a world tour.
