Alex Merriman has been handling the external EU and global regulatory affairs for SIX Securities Services Ltd, the post-trading arm of SIX, the Swiss exchange group, since joining them in Zürich in October 2010. He is a member of the European Central Securities Depositories (CSD) Association’s Public Policy Working Group and the Swiss Bankers Association’s FMI Act User Group, as well as the European Central Bank (ECB)’s Contact Group on Euro Securities Infrastructures (COGESI) ad hoc Working Group on Collateral/repo Harmonization. Mr. Merriman’s early career, from 1978 to 2004 was spent at the Bank of England, where he specialized in EU financial services issues, as well as an extensive spell as a banking supervisor. Since returning to London in April 2013, as well as covering his existing responsibilities, he has further developed his expertise in the direction of market access issues, notably by joining the City International Regulation and Strategy Group, and becoming a member of the Cross Border Regulation Forum. He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford with an M.A. in politics and economics. He is a fellow of several Salzburg Global Seminar sessions.
