Social Media Internship (Salzburg)

Salzburg Global Seminar seeks an ambitious recent graduate keen to put their digital production and communications skills to the test or an early-career social media manager who wants to use their corporate experience in a new, non-profit environment.


The Social Media Intern primary task is to create engaging and dynamic content for Salzburg Global Seminar’s social media platforms. 

The Communications Team works on every Salzburg Global program, so our interns gain exposure to a wide array of topics and experts, which will help expand their knowledge and networks. 

As part of a small and busy team, the Social Media Intern will also assist in other internal and external communications projects, giving them experience beyond social media content production and across all the communications output typical of a non-profit. 

The Social Media Intern will assist the Communications Team in the following tasks:

  • Producing content for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube), including but not limited to: captioned photos, graphics, slideshows, social audio clips and short videos, in line with corporate branding;
  • Scheduling all content, plus that created by other members of the Communications Team and external media partners, across appropriate platforms;
  • Producing the monthly Salzburg Global e-newsletter and other direct mailing campaigns;
  • Engaging with Fellows and other audiences via social media;
  • Liaising with local freelancers to produce longer-form video content for Salzburg Global’s YouTube channel and website; and 
  • Analyzing social media data, drawing actionable insights and devising new social media strategies.


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in marketing, graphic design, media, communications or a similar field or have significant work experience outside of their degree studies; preference is given to candidates who have completed postgraduate studies in marketing, graphic design, media, communications or a similar field coupled with undergraduate studies in a field relating to Salzburg Global Seminar’s programs;
  • Experience of producing branded social media content;
  • Excellent understanding of social media platforms and trends;
  • Native or equivalent proficiency in written and spoken English; excellent written communication skills and attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of international affairs and/or other topics covered by Salzburg Global Seminar’s programs during the internship;
  • Excellent IT skills in graphic design, audio and video editing, and data analysis; Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite skills are required; experience with Google Docs Suite and web CMS is also highly desirable;
  • A can-do attitude, ability to multi-task and a willingness to work flexible hours, according to program needs;
  • Comfortable working with people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Salzburg Global Seminar.

German language skills are not required.


The internship is full-time for three months. The position is unpaid, but the successful candidate will be provided with free on-site accommodation at Schloss Leopoldskron, all meals and a return ticket for their country of origin, as well as excellent networking opportunities with the international participants of our programs.
