Asier Santillan Luzuriaga

Crisis Response Officer, Service for Foreign Policy Instruments, European Commission, Spain

Since 2018, Asier is the crisis response officer in the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) of the European Commission, managing the projects of the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) in Central Asia and the Western Balkans. Previously, from 2007 to 2018, he worked for the European Commission in Latin America, particularly in Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela, being in charge of projects related to human rights, democratization and civil society. He was also the deputy director of the department of human rights and rule of law in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Kosovo (2003 to 2007), having previous working experience with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the United Nations in Angola, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia. Asier holds a Ph.D. in international public law from Universidad Nacional de EducaciĆ³n a Distancia (UNED) in Spain, a Master's degree in project management and a University Diploma in international humanitarian action (NOHA). Asier is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
