Joaquin Molina Martinez-Lozano

Senior Policy Adviser, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Belgium/Spain

Joaquín Molina is a senior policy adviser with the Political Affairs Division of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in charge of coordinating the Projecting Stability Initiative of the alliance and working on the development of the alliance's security policy. He has twenty years of experience in international negotiations, conflict prevention, political and security issues, and has been engaged in a variety of crisis situations, including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq, Kosovo, and piracy off the coast of Somalia. Between 2004 and 2008, Joaquín was involved in the negotiation process regarding the international status of Kosovo. Prior to joining NATO, he was head of section for human rights and rule of law in the Office of the High Representative in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Joaquín has been an executive in residence at the Geneva Center for Security Policy and worked on equity markets and public affairs in London and Milan. An accredited lawyer and member of the Spanish Bar, he earned his law degree from Deusto University in Bilbao, Spain, and studied international law at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands. He holds a master's degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University, USA. He is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
