Cara Tannenbaum

Scientific Director, Institute of Gender and Health, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canada

Dr. Cara Tannenbaum is a practicing internist, geriatrician and women's health specialist who serves as a medical leader, research funder, and government advisor in the area of older women's health in Canada. She launched Canada's National Women's Health Initiative in 2022 in her role as the Scientific Director of the Canadian Institute of Gender and Health. A member of Canada's scientific advisory board for health products for women, she offers perspectives on managing women's pelvic health as well as developing medicines and products that account for age and sex. She was the principal investigator of the WOW - What Older Women Want - study to address women's unmet needs for healthy aging. Dr. Tannenbaum participated in the 2021 women's advisory committee to the G20, presenting on gender equality for medicines, and has successfully integrated sex and gender into funding programs, clinical practice guidelines and policy in Canada, for which she was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2021.
