Anne Newman

Anne B. Newman, MD, MPH is Distinguished Professor of Epidemiology and Professor of Medicine and Clinical and Translational Science in the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and is the Clinical Director of the Aging Institute. Trained in clinical geriatric medicine, she has provided care for older adults and has trained both physicians and PhD researchers. Her research defines key metrics of physical functioning, frailty, and sarcopenia in large cohort studies. She has conducted clinical trials designed to prevent disability and extend health, testing the aspirin, fish oil, weight loss and physical exercise, and anti-inflammatory drugs. Awards include the Gerontological Society of American Joseph T. Freeman Award and the American Heart Association Clinical Research Award. Dr. Newman has served as an advisor to the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) and is Associate Editor of the Journal of Gerontology: Medical Science.
