Ghislaine Gill

Forest Biodiversity Specialist, Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations, Italy

Ghislaine Gill is a forest biodiversity specialist at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, where she is part of a secretariat that supports countries to reach international consensus on the appropriate policy response to global problems, and to implement agreed upon actions at the national level. Prior to her move to Rome, she worked for an NGO in The Hague on sustainable food and renewable energy issues, with responsibilities related to program development, implementation and internal operations. As a master's student, Ghislaine conducted field research into community forest conservation, governance and benefit-sharing in Liberian production forests; interned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Food Security team to support the national multi-stakeholder platform on land tenure; and conducted a consultancy on private sector driven landscape restoration to promote best practices and further develop the "4 returns" concept. Ghislaine is a Dutch national and holds a master's degree in international development from Wageningen University, and a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology from the University of Amsterdam.
