Sophia Tawonga Longwe

BSc Global Studies Student, Maastricht University, Netherlands

Sophia Tawonga Longwe is currently completing the interdisciplinary BSc in global studies at Maastricht University. During her studies, she has been elected student representative, served as the president of the global studies community, and worked in a formal advisory capacity on behalf of people of color. Together with a team of students, Sophia initiated an interfaculty conference, winning the Maastricht University Diversity & Inclusivity Grant to solve university-related problems by creating a truly inclusive learning environment that complements broader institutional efforts. Selected by the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy, she is part of the intersectional feminist network for women and other marginalized genders in politics and public policy. As a youth observer at the United Nations Internet Governance Forum 2022, she represented German youth. She gained work experience working with the German democracy initiative "Offen für Vielfalt" and volunteering for an NGO tackling poverty in Malawi. Sophia is particularly interested in education, digital, and development policy.
