Brittany Trilford

Urban designer/Planner & Consultant, Sustainable Urban Development Policy, New Zealand/Austria

Brittany Trilford is an urbanist working with both planning and design, committed to creating resilient and happy cities. She uses collective imaginations, biomimicry and data to shape plans, places and policies that achieve such cities; at the local level, on a global scale. She delivers spatial solutions that are grounded in social and environmental justice, with captivating stories and brilliant aesthetics. Her passion for advocacy and public speaking has led youth voices to the United Nations and sustainable development conferences since 2012. Commitment to community and sustainability is at the heart of her young professional life and education; both are global and diverse. Brittany is a proud New Zealander; with the resourceful DIY attitude, the optimism, egalitarianism, and the drive to punch above her weight. She is passionate about doing things differently- not only because they need to be different, but because it excites her to solve problems; to be critical, ask questions, innovate and design. Having lived on every continent in the past seven years, Brittany recently relocated to Central Europe and works between Prague and Vienna to learn from the region's growing feminist urbanism scene and progressive gender-mainstreaming projects. From Cape Town to Copenhagen, she's worked in global architectural, urban design and engineering offices, research institutes, and public office. Fostering intercultural connections has been a necessary skill on her global journey through cities around the world. Her bachelor's in public policy is from New York University's campus in the United Arab Emirates and her master's degree in urbanism is from the planning-pedantic Netherlands.
