Alissandra Cummins

Director, Barbados Museum & Historical Society, Barbados

Alissandra Cummins GCM is the Director of the Barbados Museum & Historical Society and also serves as a lecturer for the University of the West Indies (UWI). She was a Principal Investigator in an international consortium, EU-LAC-MUSEUMS examining Museums and Community (2016-2020). Alissandra has served in a number of key positions within the international relations, museum and heritage fields. She currently serves as the President of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, as well as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Network of the Slave Route Project, and the Black Portraiture Network, as well as a member of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation (IHJR). Additionally, Alissandra was the Founder President of the Museums Association of the Caribbean (1989-1996). She holds a B.A. (Hons.) degree in art history from the University of East Anglia, UK and an M.A. degree in museum studies from the University of Leicester, UK. UNESCO acknowledges her expertise in relation to Intangible Cultural Heritage, World Heritage and Memory of the World.
